Debt-ridden man commits suicide at in-laws house in Odisha

Khordha: A debt-ridden man committed at his in-laws’ house at Balianta area on outskirts of Bhubaneswar here in the district yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Sanatan Jena (40), a resident of Nua Sahi under Balianta police limits.

He committed suicide by consuming pesticide allegedly over loan burden.

According to reports, Santan was working as a daily labourer. He was deeply in debt. Even her wife Nayana Jena was a bank defaulter. She was not able to repay the loan amount that she had borrowed Rs 41,000 from a bank when she was the president of a women’s outfit. Due to non-repayment of both bank and personal loans, the couple was facing threat from various quarters.

Sanatan took extreme step losing his mental stability, his wife alleged.

Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
