Aadhaar, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is a 12-digit Unique Identity Number whereas PAN is a 10-character alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department. The Supreme Court had provided constitutional validation to the Centre’s flagship Aadhaar scheme in September 2018 and mentioned that biometric ID would be mandatory for filing IT returns and PAN allotment.
