OST Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Jan 21:
Concerned over the rising number of cases of torture of migrant labourers at workplaces by brokers and employers, the state Labour and Employment department has decided to set up a dedicated helpline for the workers in distress.
Talking to OST on Monday, Labour and Employment minister Bijoyshree Routray said state government would put in place a system soon to monitor and check the migration of labourers.
The government has asked the chief secretary to formulate a foolproof system to tackle the problem.
The minister said, henceforth all migrant labourers will have to register themselves with the nearby Labour office before leaving for work in other states.
Besides, the labour contractors and middlemen have been instructed to submit to the Labour department details of the labourers before they are taken to their place of work, he added.
