Deep Depression formed; Heavy Rainfall likely in several Odisha dists

Bhubaneswar: The depression over Bay of Bengal has turned into a deep depression which is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha during the next 48 hours.

“The Depression over southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal moved further north-northwestwards with a speed of about 20 kmph during past 6 hours, intensified into a deep depression and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 08th December, 2017 over central Bay of Bengal near Latitude 14.3 ºN and Longitude 87.0 ºE, about 590 km south-southeast of Gopalpur and 660 km east-southeast of Machilipatnam,” a bulletin of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.

“It is likely to maintain intensity of deep depression for about 12 hrs and weaken gradually into a depression during subsequent 12 hrs. The system is very likely to move north-northwestwards and reach north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts around 9th December morning as a depression,” it added.

“Rain or thundershower likely to occur at most places in the coastal and many places in the interior districts of Odisha during next 48 hours,” it forecasted.

“Heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Khorda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara,Cuttack, Malkangiri & Koraput during next 48 hours,” it warned.

Local Cautionary Signal Number Three (LC-III) has been hoisted at all ports in Odisha.

Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely to prevail along and off Odisha coasts up to 10th December and sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Odisha coasts during the period.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea up to 10th December.
