Delay in JEE rankings could derail counselling in Odisha

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Jun 30:

With the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) failing to release the all India rankings of the Joint Entrace Examination (JEE) yesterday as promised, the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination apprehends that it could lead to problems in the counselling process.

OJEE is scheduled to begin the counselling process from July 2 to 5. We hope that the CBSE would announce the results before that so that there would be no delay in the admission in the engineering colleges in Odisha, chairman of OJEE Tusharkant Nath said.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), it may be noted, failed to upload the rank card of students on its website on Monday as promised. It has hinted that it is likely to be uploaded this evening.

Due to the delay in the announcement of the all India ranks, online registration for admission in IITs, ISM-Dhanbad, NIT, IIIT and other Centrally-aided technical institutes has been delayed.

Taking note of the vacant seats in the IITs and NITs every year, it was decided to conduct simultaneous counselling from this year. However, the delay in the announcement of all India ranking has raised apprehension among the students.

Sources in the CBSE said the rank would be decided on the basis of the marks secured in the annual Plus Two examination and the JEE Main examination. Most states, barring Odisha, Mizoram and Tripura, are yet to send their Plus Two result sheets. The rank would be announced after the CBSE receives the results sheets from the remaining states, the sources said.
