According to reports, Sukanti Rout (42), wife of Gobinda Rout of Khandahata village under Vyasanagar block in Jajpur district and her daughter Bhagyashree (20), who were suffering from high fever, had come to Jajpur district headquarters hospital on July 17 for treatment.

However, the doctors referred them to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

After they were admitted to the SCB Hospital on Friday, the hospital authorities found them dengue positive after conducting the blood test.

Since there was no vacant bed in the dengue ward, the doctors advised their kin to admit the patients to a private hospital at Mangalabag where both Bhagyashree and her mother were being treated in the ICU ward for six days.

However, Bhagyashree died on Friday morning and even as her body was being cremated in the village, the family was informed that the mother, Sukanti, had also passed away. Both died within a space of 8 hours on Friday, family sources said.

Meanwhile, seven persons including a patient from Bari area of Jajpur district, were admitted to the SCB Hospital yesterday after they were found dengue positive.
