Dengue menace: Jual urges Nadda to send medical team to Odisha

With dengue assuming alarming proportions in Odisha, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram today met Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda at New Delhi urging him to dispatch a team of doctors and take necessary steps to curb the menace.

“An epidemic situation has arisen in Keonjhar district due to spread of jaundice and dengue. I have received reports that more than 600 people are suffering in Barbil town and its nearby areas in Keonjhar district. It has already affected another nine districts of Odisha. It may further spread to other areas in the state. In this context, I request you to send a team of doctors to assess the situation and for taking remedial measures at the earliest,” Oram told Nadda.

Following this, Nadda spoke to Odisha Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and discussed the dengue situation in the state.

The Union Minister assured the state Health Minister to extend full cooperation in terms of preventive and curative measures for managing the situation in Odisha.

Nadda further stated that the Health Ministry is geared up to send a team of doctors to Odisha to extend all necessary support to strengthen its efforts towards management of dengue in the state.

Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and senior BJP leader Murali Manohar Sharma were present on the occasion.

On the other hand, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak today held a review meeting at the secretariat in Odisha capital. Health secretary Arti Ahuja and other officials attended the meeting.

“Dengue patients are being reported from industrial areas where the units are either closed or running. The state Pollution Control Board, IDCO and Districts Collectors will take necessary steps even to the extent of shutting down the units not conforming to sanitation and hygiene standards,” Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said.

The Health and Industry Secretaries have directs IDCO MD, District Collectors and industrial units to speed up cleanliness drive in industrial areas.

According to reports, the number of dengue affected persons has risen to 1109 patients of which 164 are admitted to various hospitals. As many as 127 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
