Deogarh bus accident: Injured wife pays last respects to dead husband

In a tragic final farewell, the seriously injured Pooja Chattria, a survivor of the Deogarh bus accident was released from VIMSAR hospital in Burla for sometime to pay respects to her husband who died in the mishap which claimed 27 lives in Odisha.

Twenty-seven members belonging to the opera party who were travelling in the ill fated bus, which  fell off a mountain pass in Tilaebani Gailo ghat in Deogarh district  died on Sunday evening.

Pooja’s husband Somnath Chattria died on the accident spot, while she had sustained serious injuries and was unconscious while being admitted to Burla hospital.

After she gained consciousness, moved by her repeated requests to bid adieu to her life partner in his last journey the hospital authorities agreed.

“My husband passed away in front of my eyes, I kept on wailing while my husband lay dead under the bus tyre. I  have seen death in front of my eyes”, said  Pooja.

She was taken by her relatives to their ancestral house in Tangerpada. After the final meeting the relatives removed the symbols of matrimony from Pooja.  She has since returned to Burla hospital.
