Deomali mountain peak in Koraput to undergo facelift for ‘destination wedding’

Bhubaneswar: Deomali mountain peak in the Chandragiri-Pottangi subrange of the Eastern Ghats, which is located near Koraput town in this district of Odisha, will soon be developed into a ‘wedding destination’. The State tourism department has plans to prepare it as a weekend tourist destination as well.

After Jodhpur, Jaipur, Goa, and Kerala, Deomali will be a prominent wedding destination in the country. This concept is gradually becoming popular in the present-day scheme of living. Odisha has been lagging far behind other states with regard to requisite infra development, an official source expressed.

A detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared for the proposed weekend tourist destination. After completion of the project, tourists will be able to have night-stay, spend quality leisure time and join their duty after a weekend. Tourism department Additional Chief Secretary Surendra Kumar said today.

Notably, emphasis is being given to international flight movements to facilitate tourism development in Odisha. With direct air connectivity to Singapore and Thailand underway under UDAN scheme, plans are afoot to include more such flights to different places and construct an airport in Ganjam district.
