The victim, Madhusmita Das, who works as a part-time employee in Bhabani Mall at Sahid Nagar in the city, said she had married Param Das in court on December 4 last year without informing their parents. After the marriage the couple were staying together.

After knowing about our relationship, Param’s parent did not accept our marriage and asked us to tie the knot as per the Hindu rituals. But my husband later deserted me while his parents have not responded to my calls since December 15 last year.

“I am pregnant. I have a three-month baby in my womb. How can Param and their parents ditch me in this circumstances giving false promise of marriage. They are ignoring my every phone calls from the day his parents gave assurance of marriage. I cannot kill my baby and seek justice from police,” the victim said.

The Mahila police have registered a complaint and investigating into the case.
