Despite rain, Western Odisha continues to reel under heatwave

Bhubaneswar: Despite rainfall at some places in the last few days, several parts of the state, especially Western Odisha continued to reel under heatwave conditions.

The maximum day temperature hovered above 40 degree Celsius in as many as five places in the state today, as per a bulletin issued by the local Met office here this evening.

Industrial town Jharsuguda was the hottest place in the state today recording 41.4 degree Celsius, the Met bulletin added.

Hirakud recorded 40.2 degree Celsius followed by Sambalpur (40.8), Malkangiri (40.5), Talcher (39.2), Sonepur (38.4), Malkangiri (41.8), Titlagarh (39) and Angul (40.1).

The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded degree Celsius against 37.7 degree Celsius. The neighbouring Cuttack witnessed 38 degree Celsius.

The coastal Odisha districts also witnessed a substantial rise in the maximum day temperature today.

Balasore recorded 37.6 degree Celsius followed by Chandbali (36.6), Gopalpur (33.6), Paradip (32.7), Puri (34.8) and Baripada (39.6)

Meanwhile, the Met office here predicted that light to moderate rainfall will occur at most of the places in the state in the next few days.

The weathermen had said that the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Odisha in the next few days.
