The Dhamra Port Company Ltd (DPCL) on Monday organized a safety workshop for fishing trawler crews and ice factory workers of its periphery areas on the occasion of 43rd National Safety Week.

Nearly 70 fishing trawler crew, trawler owners and ice factory workers attended the workshop which was inaugurated by DPCL CEO Santosh Kumar Mohapatra. Safety Week Dhamra

Subrat Kumar Tripathy, vice-president (projects) commander Anil Kar and general secretary of Dhamra Fishermen’s Association PK Jena also attended the workshop and discussed various issues of the fishermen and ice factory workers.

The training was imparted by resource persons from the civil defence wing of the Odisha government Ajay Kumar Acharya and Dr Manoj Kumar Dash.

The Harbour Master of the port Captain Mirza Baig and head of CSR Himansu Shekhar Sahoo interacted with the participants and told about the importance of safety during deep sea fishing and while at work in the ice factories.

Safety issues like leakage of ammonia gas and frost-bite in ice factories and preventive accidents during trawler fishing like fire, drowning, burn and injuries caused by nets and machinery etc were thoroughly discussed during the workshop.

From March 4 till March 10 various awareness programmes, safety pledge, cycle rally, safety drama and award to employees observing highest safety measures were organized by the port during the safety week observance.
