Document verification for admission in medical colleges begins in Odisha

Verification of documents of the eligible students seeking admission in the government and private medical colleges in Odisha began this morning.

The verification process would continue for three days in the three government medical colleges and hospitals at Cuttack, Brahmapur and Burla.

medical doctors After the verification, students would go for choice locking for their desired institute.

While the allotment of seats is likely on July 1, the students will have to report to the authorities of their desired institute by July 3.

As per the directive of the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET), the students have been asked to mention their first choice of institution during choice locking that might be upgraded  in the allotment of seats in the second phase.

The students will have to deposit a bank draft amount of Rs 1000 during verification of their documents.

Out of a total of 650 MBBS seats and 150 BDS seats in the state, counseling for the 85 percent (681 seats) of the state quota would be held in the first phase after which admission in the vacant seats will be held after admission in the remaining 119 seats and seats under all India quota are completed. 

However, counselling for 100 MBBS seats each in SCB Medical College and Hospital and Sardar Raja Medical College and Hospital , Jaring  (Kalahandi district) would be held after the clearance of the Union Health ministry.

According to available information, out of a total of nearly 20,000 students from Odisha, 2521 students have secured rank in the recently held AIPMT entrance examinations. 

However, some of the students are likely to be excluded from admission during verification of documents.

The DMET has decided to conduct admission in 150 MBBS seats each in SCB Medical College in Cuttack, VSS Medical College in Burla and  MKCG Medical College in Brahmapur and 100 MBBS seats each in Hi-Tech Medical College in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela while it would conduct BDS admission for 50 seats in SCB Medical College and 100 seats in Hi-Tech Medical College.
