Double murder in Odisha capital; Man kills wife, 10-year-old son

Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a man allegedly killed his wife and 10-year-old son in K-4 area of Kalinga Nagar here today. The accused absconded after committing the heinous crime.

The bodies were found lying inside the house this afternoon. On receiving information, Tamando police reached the spot and sealed the house. A forensic team has been called in to join the probe into the incident.

After a brief search, the police traced the accused, Abanti Bijaya Mangaraj and detained him for questioning.

Police sources said Abanti Bijaya married Swarna Lata Mangaraj and was having a 10-year-old son.

After the accused faced some financial problem due to loss in share market trading, he decided to kill his family members and end his life also.

Before the police Abanti Bijaya recorded his statement saying that he yesterday mixed sleeping tablets in food. When his wife and son fell asleep, he strangulated them to death at around 3 AM today morning with the help of an odhni.

Though Abanti Bijaya later tried to harm himself with a knife, he could not succeed. The accused then left the house and roamed around till today evening when he was nabbed by the police.

Bhubaneswar DCP Uma Shankar Dash and senior police officials reached the spot, and further investigation into the incident is on.

Also, a scientific team reached the spot to collect evidence.
