Drain encroachers to be evicted for water evacuation in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Following submergence of several areas in Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar due to heavy rainfall, Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) MLA Ashok Chandra Panda today chaired a meeting over water evacuation in the city.

“Those who have encroached the main drain in the city will be evicted soon. Besides, natural drains will be revamped and new drains will be constructed. This apart, the Gangua drain will be widened,” said the MLA after the meeting.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, who was present in the meeting, said the drain encroachers will not be included under the ‘Sarbakhyama‘ Yojana. Around 10 sensitive points have been identified where people have encroached the Gangua drain. All of them will be evicted within a year for extension of the drain, he said.
