Drowning deaths of schoolkids: Locals release teachers after assurance

Balasore: A day after two school students drowned in a canal at Haripur under Khaira block in Balasore district, locals released two teachers, including a woman, detained following the incident, after the Sub-Collector assured them to take action in this connection.

The Sub-Collector also assured to provide Rs 4 lakh compensation to family members of each deceased.

Worth mentioning, Class-VI student Rajesh Sahoo and Class-VII student Dhananjaya Jena Ratina Nodal Upper Primary School, drowned in a canal while washing their hands after having mid-day meal (MDM) yesterday afternoon.The two were declared dead at Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

Tension had prevailed on the school premises following the deaths after angry villagers blamed the school authorities for their negligence that led to the mishap.
