Drunkard hangs 3-YO son to death before killing self in Odisha

Umerkote:  A drunk man hanged his three-year-old son to death before ending his own life at Arjunguda village under Jharigaon block in Nabarangpur district, sending shock waves among the local residents.

Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, family feud is suspected to have forced Pitabasa Bhatra (25) to take the extreme step, in inebriated condition.

Sources said Pitabasa had become a habitual drunkard over the last few years and used to beat his wife Bimala frequently over trivial issues. And after every fight, Bimala go to her brother-in-law Rudra’s house in the nearby and comes back after Pitabasa is asleep.

Like everyday, Pitabasa came to house inebriated condition at around 8 pm yesterday and his wife went to Rudra’s house following a quarrel. When Bimala returned after few hours, she found the door closed from inside. She immediately called up his neighbours, who broke open the door to find both Pitabasa and his son Jitendra hanging from the ceiling.

This morning, Rudra lodged a written complaint at Jharigaon police station in his connection. Acting on the complaint, police reached spot and began an investigation into the incident.
