Durga puja: Idol immersion to be held amidst tight security in Odisha’s twin city

Bhubaneswar: Making an effort for smooth conduct of idol immersion of goddess Durga, the Commissionerate police will tighten the security with deployment of more police forces during the event scheduled tomorrow in twin city.

At least eight platoons of forces will be deployed in Bhubaneswar for idol immersion programme. The idols of goddess Durga will be immersed in temporary ponds constructed on the banks of Kuakhai, Bhargavi and Daya rivers on city’s outskirts.

Twenty officers in ranks of sub-inspector and assistant sub-inspector will monitor the idol immersion programme in the state capital.

Similarly, eight platoons of police forces and 450 police officers will be deployed in silver city Cuttack tomorrow. The teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), SOG and Quick Action Team (QAT) will monitor the idol immersion event there.

Notably, the four-day long Durga puja is being celebrated at 172 pandals in Bhubaneswar and 168 pandals in Cuttack this year.
