ECoR drive against inflammable items

For the safety of the passengers, especially before Diwali, East Coast Railway has formed a special squad which will ensure no passenger carries any inflammable item inside train compartment.

“Carrying of inflammable objects like crackers, gas cylinder, acid, petrol, kerosene, dry grass/leaves, thermic welding, sigri, stove etc. during train journey is a punishable offence under the Railway Rule 1989, Section 164 of the Railway Act, where the offender may attract imprisonment up to 3 years, or a fine of Rs 1,000 or both. Under Section 165 of the railway Act, a fine of Rs 500 is applicable,” a press release issued by the ECoR said .

The release urged passengers not to carry any inflammable item while travelling on trains and also not let co-passengers do the same.

“If any passenger is found carrying inflammable items, co-passengers are requested to inform the railway staff on duty like TTEs, Coach Attendants, Guards of the Train, Station Managers, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel about it,” the release said.

Passengers can also SMS or call 8455885777. However, while sending complaint via SMS, the concerned passenger is required to mention his 10 digit PNR Number or 8 digit ticket number followed by comma ( , ) and then mention the complaint.

Steps have been taken by the Safety Department of East Coast Railway to make the train passengers and rail users aware of the new facility, the release said.
