ECoR observes I-Day in Odisha capital

The 69th Independence Day was celebrated under the auspices of East Coast Railway (ECoR) at Railway Stadium in the Odisha capital on Saturday.

ECoR I-Day celebrationECoR general manager Rajiv Vishnoi unfurled the national flag and exchanged salute in the parade organised by Railway Protection Force (RPF) contingent, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Civil Defence and Railway and non-Railway school Children.

Addressing the large gathering, officers and family members as well as rail users, Vishnoi urged Railway workforce to rededicate their efforts for Nation building through extra hard work for smooth running of Railway system.

Informing the performance of the East Coast Railway Zone, Vishnoi informed that in 2014-15 financial year, this Railway became the highest loading zone on the Indian Railways by achieving a record loading of 161.91 MT, registering a growth of 8.30% over the previous year’s loading of 149.50 MT and carried 89.84 million passengers against 88.83 million in 2013-14 and bagged the Traffic Transportation Shield and Personnel Management Shield at National level for such outstanding performances.

About the performance of the current financial year, Vishnoi said ECoR during the first quarter, has loaded 41.22 MT up to June 2015 of the current fiscal, which is 6.98% more than that of the corresponding period of the last year. 

Praising the hard work and dedicated service by the employees, he said successful commissioning of Delang-Puri doubling, new station building at Malatipatpur and the tourist complex well before the Nabakalebara festival of Lord Jagannath, which helped us in running as many as 218 special trains during the period thereby satisfying the aspirations of lakhs of pilgrims during the festival.

Apart from this, 176 special trains were also provided for the benefit of the passengers for Maha Puskaralu Mela at Godavari and celebrate arrangements were made for the pilgrims.

Highlighting the achievements of this Railway, Vishnoi said during 1st four months of the current Financial Year for meeting seasonal demands of the travelling public, especially during festivals & vacations, this Railway ran 588 special trains and augmented 1121 coaches in regular trains to clear waitlisted passengers.

Apart from this, for the comfort of travelling public, a number of passenger amenity works including UTSs at two locations, FOB at one station, PF shelters at two stations, touch screen terminal at one location have been provided during the first four months of the current year.

A colourful cultural programme was also presented by school children, wards of Railway employees, Bharat Scouts & Guides to mark the occasion.

Mrs Shalini Vishnoi, President, ECoR Women’s Welfare Organisation and all Principals and Coordinating Heads of the departments of ECoR were present.​
