Eight month-old Laxmi as she gurgles and smiles in her mother’s arms in the Deogarh district hospital is too young to realise that she has just defied death in the tragic bus accident on Sunday which claimed 27 lives in Odisha.

Little Laxmi had a miraculous escape with only a minor cut on her head in the accident which saw 27 out of 38 persons dead, while 11 others have been seriously injured.

Her mother has sustained minor injuries, while her father and brother are missing.

The family as part of the Bharati Gananatya jatra party was travelling in a bus which fell 300 feet from the Tilaebani Gaelo ghat in Deogarh district yesterday.

“ I have not been able to find out about my husband and son after the accident. My daughter has a cut on her head.” said the mother as the destiny’s child looks on surprised at the hustle and bustle in the hospital.
