Elaborate security in Odisha capital for I-Day celebrations

Twin City Commissionerate police has made elaborate security arrangements ahead of Independence Day celebration at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Odisha’s capital city.

To beef up the security, 22 platoons of police forces including Quick Response Team (QRT), Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams will deployed on the day of parade on August 15.

An additional DCP rank officer will supervise the event; he will be assisted by 20 ACPs and 100 Inspector-rank officers and below.

“A temporary police control room will be set up near the parade venue at Mahatma Gandhi Marg. Additional security cameras will be deployed in the area. For maintaining law and order situation during the event, 22 platoon police forces will be deployed,” Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma said.

“Inspectors of the concerned police stations have been instructed to keep a close vigil on anti-social elements,” Dr Sharma said, adding the intelligence wing had been instructed to collect intelligence about any move to disrupt the I Day celebrations.

Sharma also said that during events of national importance like Republic Day and Independence Day, the intelligence agencies issue an alert, but no specific warning was issued by the agencies for the state this time.

To regulate the traffic, police have made 10 sectors for people who will gather in large numbers to watch the state level parade along the Gandhi Marg and identified seven parking places in and around the Gandhi Marg for smooth passage of vehicles.
