Elderly tribal man killed, 11 others injured in lightning strike in Odisha

Bangiriposi: An elderly tribal man was killed and 11 others injured when lightning struck them during a Santali puja celebration in Nuagaon village under Saraskana block in Mayurbhanj district today afternoon.

When the puja was being performed by some Santal tribals at Nuagaon, out of nowhere rain poured and lightning struck the area. The elderly man, identified as Narana Hansada (65) of Kuanradihi village died on the spot in a lightning strike whereas 11 others present at the spot sustained grievous injuries.

As per latest reports, the injured were admitted to the Sirsha Health Centre. When condition of two of the injured deteriorated, they were shifted to Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital.

After receiving information, local police and Tahsildar reached the spot and inquired the matter.

An official said after getting the post mortem report of Murmu, compensation will be provided to the kin of the deceased as per government provisions.
