Elderly woman, child injured in leopard attack in Odisha’s Nuapada

Nuapada: While the bitter memories of a leopard mauling a 4-year-old boy to death at Haladi village under Khariar Road Forest Range in Odisha’s Nuapada district are yet to fade away, an elderly woman and her granddaughter were injured in an attack by a leopard in the same village late last night.

The victims have been admitted to the Nuapada district headquarters hospital for treatment.

According to reports, 55-year-old Dhanabai Pandey her granddaughter Chandini (10) were attacked by a leopard when they were asleep in their house.

The animal tried to drag the duo outside biting their legs. Hearing screams of Dhanabai, neighbours rushed to the spot but the leopard managed to escape.

On being informed about the incident, Forest officials launched a search operation to trace the leopard.

It may be recalled here that Chhaganlala, son of Hiralal Pandey of the village, was dragged by a leopard into a nearby forest on the night of May 26 while he was sleeping beside his parents on the verandah of the house.

His body was found from the forest next morning in a mutilated condition.
