Elephant dies after being hit by train in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A moving train hit an elephant killing the animal on the spot near Gadagadabahal under Jujumura police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district last evening.

According to reports, the tusker was crossing the railway track around 6 PM when Bhubaneswar-Rourkela Intercity Express hit the pachyderm, whose age is estimated to be 12 years. The elephant sustained critical injuries in the mishap and died.

Forest officials have recovered the carcass for autopsy and started an investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which the incident took place.

Earlier on November 27, as many as 24 buffaloes were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after being hit by Bhubaneswar-Rourkela Intercity Express  near Joranda Road railway station in Dhenkanal district.
