Eligibility criteria for IIT exams 75 per cent in plus two

Next year IIT aspirants will need to have 75 per cent in plus two exams or be in the top 20 percentile to sit for the entrance exams of JEE main and JEE Advanced, according to the  Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)  announcement.

Weightage of forty percent which was given to plus two students will be abolished in preparing the merit list. A two phase test was implemented in 2012 for admission to IITs, NITs and centrally funded institutes in India. Those who cleared JEE (mains) were allowed to appear for JEE (advanced).

If a student does not have the required marks he or she will be disqualified from giving JEE Main and JEE Advanced. For SC/ST students the criteria will be relaxed to 65 per cent.

This cut off has been implemented by HRD ministry after repeated requests from various IITs. Human Resources ministry had set up an IIT Council Committee and has accepted its recommendations. The committe to examine the one rank one exam proposal for admission to technical institutes.
