Eminent Odisha poet Jayant Mohapatra to get Utkal Ratna Samman

Eminent Odisha poet of international fame and one of the best known Indian English poets Dr Jayant Mohapatra would receive the prestigious Utkal Ratna Samman this year.

Dr Mohapatra would be conferred with the award, instituted by Utkal Sahitya Samaj (USS), on the occasion of its 112nd convocation in Cuttack on August 24.

The award carries a silver trophy, copper plaque and a shawl.

Apart from this, eminent linguist Dr Debi Prasanna Patnaik would be conferred with the first Bhasa Samman instituted by USS from this year.

Other awardees nominated for the awards in other categories are Surendranath Swain (novel), Debasis Panigrahi (short story), Kunja Ray (playwright), Lambodar Prasad Singh (science fiction), Nrushingha Tripathy (poem), Panchanan Mohanty (Essay), Nanda Kishore Singh (children literature), Gloria Mohanty (art and culture), Prof Jatin Nayak (translation), Satya Mohapatra (news feature), Rabindra Narayan Mishra (spiritual literature), Nrusingha Charan Sahu (biography), Kanan Bihari Das (journalism), Laxmikant Tripathy (comic literature), Durga Charan Patnaik (anthology of poems) and Nimai Charan Panda (autobiography).

Besides, Sanghamitra Mishra would receive Lekhika Samman, Harmohan Khuntia, Kabichandra Samman and Rakhal Mohanty, Sangeet Samman.

Apart from this, others who have been nominated for other awards are Ashish Mohapatra (travelogue), Shyam Sundar Mishra (Ramya Rachana and Lalit Nibandha), Barada Prasanna Patnaik (cultural organization), Kedar Mishra (Yuva Saraswata Samman) and Abhiram Mohapatra (Prakasaka (Publisher) Samman ), said USS general secretary Manoj Patnaik and organizing secretary Jibanananda Adhikari in a press release here on Sunday evening.
