Two endangered blackbucks were suspected to have been bumped off by an unknown vehicle in Odisha’s Ganjam district today.
According to reports, a male and a female pair of the Indian blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra) was found dead along the road near Baghua river under Aska Forest Range.
The antelopes have been hit by some unknown vehicle resulting in their death, a local resident said.
Notably, blackbuck is included in the Schedule-I of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and is designated as Vulnerable as per Red Data Book (1994).
