Enforcement of Prohibition Act in Odisha difficult: Minister

Assembly small size

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, July 10:

Excise minister Dr Damodar Rout on Wednesday admitted that though the Odisha Prohibition Act has been passed by the State Assembly since 1956, it is yet to be implemented in the state due to various reasons.

Replying to a question of BJD member Ranendra Pratap Swain, he said that Act has not been enforced since its implementation is likely to result in trading of spurious liquor leading to illicit hooch consumption deaths.

Considering this, there is a need for a thorough review on this issue before implementation of this Act, he pointed out.
