The hacker identified as Tarini Prasad Samantaray, a student of a private engineering college late this evening visited the Khandagiri police station and admitted to the crime.

Twin City Commissioner of Police R P Sharma had earlier in the day informed that the website was hacked by someone probably from Bhubaneswar.

“We strongly suspect that the hacking has been done from Bhubaneswar. We suspect that some over enthusiastic and knowledgeable IT students while practicing ethical hacking had succeeded in breaking OUAT website’s password. During investigation we haven’t found any sabotage or ill intention behind the act as they haven’t posted any objectionable content in the website,” Sharma had told reporters.

The Commissioner of Police had further informed that a case has been registered under sections 65, 66(a) and 66(c) of the IT Act in this connection on Saturday.

The official website of the OUAT was hacked on Friday between 6 pm to 8 pm in the evening by a hacker identifying himself as ‘Don’.

After media alerted OUAT Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoranjan Kar about the hacking he had asked officials to shut down the website and remove it from the server immediately as a precautionary measure.

OUAT authorities had registered an FIR with the Khandagiri police station here on Saturday about the hacking of the website and had also marked a copy of the same to the Crime Branch.
