Bhubaneswar, Jan 31:

Kin and friends of an engineering student, who had gone on a study tour and was found dead near railway track in Ganjam district yesterday, staged a protest at Master Canteen Square in Odisha capital today by placing the body on road alleging that he has been murdered and demanded arrest of the killers.

According to reports, Mrunmaya Prasad Baral (22) of Athantara in Balipatna area, a third-year civil engineering student of a private engineering college, had gone on a study tour to Visakhapatnam along with his classmates and teachers on January 26.

However, his parents failed to establish contact with him on January 29 night while he was returning back with others in train.

Yesterday morning, Mrunmaya was found dead near railway track at Kesharpur in Rambha area of Ganjam district. Police seized the body and informed the parents of Mrunmaya about the incident.

The kin of the deceased have alleged that he was either pushed off running train which led to his death or he was first killed and then the body was pushed off the train.

Demanding arrest of the culprits, family members of Mrunmaya, his friends and several residents of Athantara staged a protest at Master Canteen Square today.

Sources said, Mrunmaya’s parents had earlier informed the college authorities that some students are against him. They might have killed him while returning from the study tour, the deceased’s parents said.
