Ensure rail connectivity to Nayagarh by March 2017: Odisha CM

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked the State Government and Indian Railway officials to expedite pending works and ensure that railway connectivity reaches Nayagarh by March 2017.

Patnaik said so while reviewing the progress of Khurda-Bolangir railway line in a high level meeting at the Secretariat here.

Addressing the officials of the concerned State Government departments in the meeting, he expressed his dissatisfaction over the delay in completion of work between the Raj Sunakhala- Bolgarh stretch, said a press notification from the Chief Minister’s Office.

He also advised the officials to expedite the work from the Bolangir side and ensure railway connectivity to Sonepur as soon as possible.

According to the notification, the State Government lays emphasis of timely completion of the Khurda-Bolangir railway project given its importance to the state. The government is offering all possible help to the Railways in land acquisition, forest and environmental clearance among others.

It may be mentioned here that the State Government is bearing 50 percent of the project cost on the 289 kilometre long railway line. Land acquisition has been completed for a 109 kilometre stretch so far.

In the meeting with Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, Development Commissioner, CGM of East Coast Railway among others, Patnaik expressed happiness over the progress made in land acquisition in Nayagarh, Boudh, Subarnapur and Bolangir districts and asked the district collectors of those districts to monitor the progress at regular intervals.
