Ensure toilets in all schools in a month, Odisha govt tells officials

The Odisha government has asked the collectors of all districts to take measures to ensure that there are functioning toilets in all schools within a month.

Sulabh-ToiletApart from the collectors, district education officers and district conveners of Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan (SSA) have been asked to verify the provision of drinking water supply and toilet facilities in all schools since the government has given top priority to the environment and sanitation in these schools, School and Mass Education department said in a notification.

The department has also directed these officials to make existing toilets usable and make provisions for their repair and maintenance.

It has also directed them to identify the schools having no toilet facility and set up new toilets in these schools.

The department has asked these officials take up the works by availing funds from Siksha Adhikar, SSA and Rashtriya Madhyamika Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and make necessary provisions for supply of drinking water to these schools under Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) programme.

In view of the launching of statewide sanitation programme in all schools on September 1, the department has directed the above officials to finish the repair work of existing toilets and installation of new toilets before the scheduled date.
