ETAT to be opened in children’s ward of Capital Hospital in Odisha

In view of child casualties occurred in the recent past in Odisha, Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment (ETAT) will be opened at children’s ward of Unit 6 Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

The unit will help providing assistance to the children victims of accident or any kind of emergency.

The unit will be set up at the capital hospital under National Health Mission (NHM).

The doctors and staff nurses of the hospital will be provided training for one or two days for ETAT. The government is planning to open the unit by March 20, said an official source in the capital hospital.

The move came in view of the incident at a school in Sakhigopal where several children were injured in wall collapse. The injured students were rushed to capital hospital from where they were shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital due to shortage of ICU.

The ETAT will help in addressing such incidents. Three-four beds will be kept reserved for the children, who are brought under critical condition to the hospital.

Three types of treatments will be provided at the ETAT unit as per the condition of children, sources said.

Besides, Pediatric Incentive Care Unit (PICU) and Kangaroo Mother Care Unit will be opened at the children’s ward of the state-run hospital.
