Evening weather alert: Rain, thunderstorm to lash 6 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: While the western parts of Odisha are singing under intense heatwave conditions, moderate rainfall in some areas is likely to pull the mercury down by few notches.

The district – Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sundargarh – will receive moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning this evening, the Indian Meteorological department said.

Moderate thunderstorm with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH and lightning & light to moderate rainfall likely to occur at some places over the districts between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm, a bulletin of the Regional Meteorological Centre said.

Temperature across Odisha has gone down considerably with only four stations – Jharsuguda (41), Sambalpur (40.2), Bolangir (41.2) and Malkangiri (40) – recording maximum day temperature above 40 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, it is predicted that the southwest monsoon is likely to hit Odisha in a week’s time, bringing much-needed respite to the people.
