Model School to be set up in every block in Odisha

Model schools on the pattern of Central Schools would soon come up in every block in Odisha.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting presided over by chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here today.

CM meeting on  model schoolsIt was decided in the meeting that infrastructure development of 162 schools would be taken up in the current fiscal at a cost of Rs 190 crore.

The model school will have classes from VI to XII and 50 percent of seats would be reserved for girls. Besides, there would be a girls’ hostel near every model school.

The syllabus of the model schools would be at par with that of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Apart from English and Odia, Sanskrit and Hindi would be taught in these schools as additional languages.

Priority would be given on providing vocational training to the students of these schools.

For smooth management of these schools, the chief minister asked the School and Mass Education department to constitute a society in line with the the Central school management system.

He also asked the department to create a special cadre for the teachers of these schools.

Among others, School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra, secretary, School and Mass Education, Usha Padhee, Development Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi and other officials of the concerned department were present at the meeting.
