“I have been working for those who are invisible and cannot be heard (child labourers). So, every time I liberate a child, I liberate myself. It’s a small victory of liberty over slavery,” he said at an event organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) at the India International Centre here.

Dedicating his Nobel prize to all his “Indian brothers and sisters”, Satyarthi said he saw god in the smiles of rescued children.

“I believed in god but didn’t know where to find him. Every time, I brought a child back to his mother, the smile on that child’s face and the tears of joy in the eyes of the mother… that feeling was divine. They were my god,” he said.

The child rights crusader thanked the NHRC for saving his life on many occasions.

Satyarthi won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize along with Pakistan’s Malala Yousafzai.
