According to reports, a caller identifying himself as Deepak Jaiswal called up Koda on Saturday night at around 9.20 pm demanding Rs 20 lakh as extortion money. On the subsequent day, the caller again made a call repeating the same demand failing which he would abduct Koda’s daughter.

Following this, Koda filed an FIR with Lalpur police station in Ranchi yesterday.

According to a police source, the call came from Odisha capital, Bhubaneswar.

Notably, Madhu Koda was sworn in as the fourth Chief Minister of Jharkhand on 14 September 2006 with the support of Congress and RJD, and remained in office until he resigned on 23 August 2008. Koda had created history by becoming the chief minister despite being an independent legislator of Jharkhand.

A year later, Koda was arrested in connection with mining scam. On 31 July 2013, he was released on bail from Birsa Munda prison in Ranchi.

Koda's wife is also a legislator in the Jharkhand Assembly.
