Ex-Odisha DGP Prakash Mishra appointed DG CRPF

Odisha cadre IPS officer of the 1977 batch Prakash Mishra, currently posted as the special secretary, Internal Security, in the Union Home ministry, was today appointed as the Director General (DG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the country’s largest paramilitary force.

Mishra will take charge of his new posting on Monday.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Prakash Mishra, IPS (OR:77), presently working as Special Secretary (IS), Ministry of Home Affairs, as Director General, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)”, a notification issued by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, department of Personnel and Training said today.

Mishra has served as the DG, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha. As the DGP of Odisha, he had achieved significant sucess in the fight against Maoists, a factor that is believed to have influeneced his appointment as the DG of CRPPF, the main strike force against left wing extremism in the country

The post of CRPF Director General was lying vacant since the retirement of Dilip Trivedi on November 30.
