‘We will devise an appropriate strategy to minimize casulaties in the force through changes in the deployment pattern, better  intelligence gathering and more effective coordination with  police forces at the state level,” Mishra told the media shortly after taking over as the new CRPF DG.

Mishra, who achieved significant success in the fight against Maoists as the DGP of Odisha, said he would use the experience to formulate a startegy for combating Maoists elsewhere.

With central forces having achieved significant sucesses against left wing extremism in Odisha in the last few years, the focus would be on combating Maoists in other states like Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, he said.

Asked about the Odisha government’s plea for more helicopters, Mishra said there was no problem in this regard. ”elicopters are provided as and when required. But if the Odisha government feels there is need for more, it should take it up with the central government because we don’t decide these things,” he added.

Mishra took charge at the CRPF headquarters in New Delhi where the CRPF jawans gave him a guard of honour.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had approved the appointment of Prakash Mishra, IPS (OR:77), presently working as Special Secretary (IS), Ministry of Home Affairs, as Director General, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Mishra has earlier served as the DG, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha.

The post of CRPF Director General was lying vacant since the retirement of Dilip Trivedi on November 30 this year.
