Close on the heels of a crack appearing around the Kalas at the pinnacle of the Lord Lingaraj temple in Old Bhubaneswar in Odisha, a team of experts of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has suggested to the temple administration to shift the spot where the large earthen lamp ( Maha Deepa ) is placed.

According to reports, the ASI experts had climbed to the top of the temple on Sunday to examine the cracks around the Kalas.

The team, in its report to the state government and the temple administration today, said the cracks around the Kalas have developed over the years due to the extreme heat generated by the fire from huge earthen diya ( Maha Deepa ) that is placed around it during the Maha Shivratri.

The experts have suggested that as a remedial measure and to avoid further damage, efforts should be made to shift the Maha Deepa spot to some other part of the temple, reports added.
