Explained: Delmicron, and its origin and symptoms

Bhubaneswar: Amid scare of Omicron variant of Covid-19, experts believe there could be presence of Delmicron in most countries. Ruling out Delmicron to be a new variant, Dr Shashank Joshi, member of Maharashtra’s Task Force on Covid-19 reportedly stated it is the combination of the twin spikes of Delta and Omicron.

Delmicron is spreading fast in the West. As both the Delta variant and Omicron variant are present over the world, including India, experts have derived the Delmicon name after combing both the variant.

In the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data showed the Omicron variant now represents 73% of Covid-19 cases.

The United Kingdom on December 22 reported 1,06,122 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. A total of 13 people died due to the Omicron variant in Britain till December 21.

Symptoms of Delmicron
Experts are of the opinion that as Delmicron is a combination of Delta and Omicron versions of Coronavirus , no different symptoms have been observed.

Some common symptoms observed among patients suffering from Omicron or Delta variant are as follows:
• a high temperature
• a persistent cough
• a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
• headache
• runny nose
• sore throat

Delmicron in India
As per a Times Of India report, Dr Shashank Joshi said that it is still to assess how the Omicron variant would behave in India as there is ‘exposure’ to the Delta variant on large scale.

Another expert Dr Shahid Jameel says the Omicron variant of Covid-19 will not affect India as badly as Delta did.
