Fake Odisha godman, aide held for raping minor

Kashipur police in Odisha’s Rayagada district have arrested a fake godman and his accomplice accused of raping a minor girl convincing her family believe that they can get her through in the forthcoming High School Certificate examinations in the state.

The arrested have been identified as Basant Nayak of Matikana village under Tikiri police limits, a self styled godman and his accomplice Ashok Majhi of Kutigan, police said on Monday.

According to the complaint lodged with the police, Nayak raped the minor on the pretext of doing puja to get her passed in the forthcoming High School Certificate examinations.

Local sources said Ashok, on the evening of February 6, had accosted the minor girl to a forested area of Chatikona where Basant performed the puja and later raped the girl.
