Fake placement agency busted in Odisha, one held

The Tikiri police in Odisha’s Rayagada district today busted a fake placement agency and arrested a 24 year old youth.

accusedThe accused, identified as Aswini Kumar Sahu of Badagurujibhatta village of Bolangir district, allegedly duped more than 20 job aspirants of more than Rs four lakh on the pretext of providing them with jobs in the Utkal Alumina International Ltd in the district.

The accused was running a placement agency at Hotel Venus in Tikiri since October last year by posing himself as AGM of Techno India Pvt Ltd”,  Rayagada SDPO Y Jagannath Rao told reporters here.

He said Aswini has taken more than Rs three lakh from 11 persons.  He was collecting Rs one lakh from the Engineering students and Rs 40,000-50,000 from the ITI and Diploma students.

“After collecting the necessary documents Aswini would accompany the job seekers to of Utkal Alumina office and talked to the company officials as AGM of Techno India Pvt Ltd”, the SDPO said.

He said the incident came to light following a complaint lodged by Santunu Kumar Patra, a B Tech student of Sunabeda, alleging that Aswini had taken Rs 80,000 from him two months ago promising him to provide a job.

“Acting on the complaint, police raided Aswini’s office and seized bundles of recruitment forms”, Rao said.

“The accused is being interrogated to ascertain the amount of money he has defrauded.  A case has been registered in this connection at Tikiri police station and further investigation is on”, IIC of Tikiri police station, Renuka Suna, told OST.
