State Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) authorities on Thursday lodged a complaint with the police against the creation of fake web portal, ‘Odishajee14’, which purports to disseminate information about Odisha JEE.

Priyabrata Sahu, secretary of Odisha JEE said he had lodged a complaint with Airfield police station here stating that miscreants had created a fake website with the web address www.odishajee14.com claiming to provide all information about Odisha JEE and trying to pass it off as the official JEE website.

“Some candidates had approached the JEE office here regarding this fake site, which has caused great confusion in the minds of aspirants and their guardians. They also gave us two mobile numbers – 7752005967 and 7752005963 – from which the miscreants are sending SMS to candidates inviting online applications,” Sahu said. “We felt it was our duty to bring it to the notice of the police and seek a thorough investigation to identify the mischief mongers,” he added.

Thousands of students depend on the Odisha JEE website, which provides them information about the admission and online examination in various medical and technical courses. But the fake website has caused utter confusion in the minds of candidates, he said.

The miscreants might have created the fake website to make a fast buck during the admission process of students in different colleges, alleged Sahu.

On being contacted, Inspector-in-charge of Airfield police station RR Sahu said the matter was being investigated.

Students of MCA, MBA, M. Pharma, B. Pharma and lateral engineering would appear in the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination-2014, likely to be held on May 11.

The application process for various courses to appear in the examination for Odisha JEE-2014 has been completed. A total of 49,384 students have applied of which 45,093 have applied offline and 4291 online.

Among those who have applied for this year examination, 26,853 students are from rural areas and 22,531 from urban areas. There are 33,281 male and 16,103 female candidates this year.
