Tamando firing: Parents, relative of accused arrested in Odisha capital

Police arrested family members of the accused, who are at large, for their involvement in the firing in which a youth was dead on outskirts of Odisha capital yesterday evening.

Parents and relative of the accused were arrested on charges of inducing them to shoot the youth.

Police arrested Pravakar Patnaik (55), Snehalata Patnaik (45) and Soumyajit Behera alias Kanha (24) under section 302, 301, 341, 323, 294, 506 and 34 of IPC.

The deceased was identified as Abhijit Behera alias Sipu. He was shot dead near Tamando yesterday evening.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 6 pm near Tamando panchayat office where Sipu, the only son of Basant Behera of Nua Sahi, and his cousin Badal were stopped by Pravakar Pattnaik, his sons Bapi and Liku and relative Kanha over past dispute during Dola festival while they were going to market.

Bapi attacked Sipu and Badal with mouser. While Badal managed to run off the place, Sipu became the victim. The accused Bapi along with his brother Liku fled the spot following the incident.

Sipu was rushed to Amri Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Acting on the information, police reached the spot and launched probe into the incident. They nabbed Pravakar while he was trying to escape from the rented house late night yesterday.
