Family of dead Odisha BSF jawan alleges foul play

The family of the dead 25 year-old Odisha BSF jawan, who had reportedly committed suicide using his own service revolver in Hemtabad camp in Raigunj, Siliguri, West Bengal on February 7th, have alleged foul play and are demanding a judicial probe into the death.

murderThe deceased Jyotiprakash Panda (Raja), Kirtan Panda’s eldest son, was a native of Chandipur village under Kuakhia police station limits in Jajpur district. He had joined Bihar Raiganj Regiment two years ago. Panda was a member of BSF’s 167 number Battalion.

On February 7, Jyotiprakash Panda committed suicide by shooting himself in the head, he was rushed to the hospital in a very critical condition, but succumbed on the way, and the regiment commander had conveyed this news to Panda’s father over phone.

Yesterday, the body was flown to Bhubaneswar, and the West Bengal BSF officials handed it over to their Odisha counterparts.
The BSF  jawans from Bhubaneswar reached Chandipur village with Jyotiprakash’s body at 2-3 am in the morning. But the family members and villagers refused to receive the body. They  alleged that Jyotiprakash  has been murdered and are demanding a judicial probe into the matter.

Only after the sub-collector assured the family of judicial probe into the death, they accepted the body.
