Farmer killed, 3 college students critical in lightning strikes in Odisha

Balasore/Jagatsinghpur: A farmer was killed and three college students were critically injured due to lightning strikes in separate incidents in Odisha today.

The deceased has been identified as Mithun Boita, a native of Oupada village in Balasore district.

The lightning struck the farmer when he was working in a paddy filed near his village. He died on the spot, sources said.

In another incident, three college students, including two girls were critically injured due to lightning strike in Jagatsinghpur district.

The three injured are students of Brundaban Chandra (Junior) College, Redhua of Raghunathpur. All the three were admitted the District Headquarters Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Met office has predicted that rain will occur in north Odisha from August 12 under the impact of a fresh low pressure likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on August 13.
