Farmer suicide rocks Odisha Assembly as Opposition creates ruckus

The farmer suicide issue rocked Odisha Assembly today as Opposition BJP and Congress members created ruckus over the matter forcing Speaker Niranjan Pujari to adjourn the House repeatedly.

BJP legislators demanded cancellation of the Question Hour and debate over the matter.

While Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy was replying to a question on Potato Mission during Question Hour, BJP members rushed to the Well of the House and created din.

Besides, BJP MLA Rabi Naik tried to snatch Speaker Pujari’s microphone.

Unable to run the House amid pandemonium, the Speaker adjourned it for one hour.

After the House reassembled, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra raised the issue of farmer Hadu Bagarti’s suicide in Bargarh district during Zero Hour and demanded an independent probe into the incident.

Later, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati created ruckus over the issue following which Speaker Pujari adjourned the House till 12.55 PM and again till 3 PM.

During Zero Hour, Mishra also raised the incident of detention of former Telkoi MLA Chandrasena Naik at a private hospital here due to non-payment of hospital dues.

The Speaker asked the House panel on health to probe into the matter.
