Farmers’ body calls for Odisha bandh Friday

Bhubaneswar: Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), an Odisha-based farmers’ outfit today extended its solidarity to the all India ‘chakka jam’ call on June 16  given by 51 farmers’ organizations in protest against police firing on farmers at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh in which six peasants were killed.

NKS at a press conference here gave a call for Odisha bandh on June 16 and appealed to all political parties, bus and truck owners, civil society groups, mass organizations, citizen forums and other farmers’ organizations of the state to extend their support to the bandh and make it a success across the state.

The farmers’ outfit demanded immediate implementation of the M S Swaminathan Committee report, farm loan waiver while reiterating its earlier demands seeking price, prestige, and pension for farmers.

“Navnirman Krushak Sangathan extends solidarity to the all India bandh call given by farmers’ organizations. We have called for Odisha bandh on June 16- to show our solidarity with them and demand immediate implementation of Swaminathan Committee report. The bandh will be observed in all districts across Odisha peacefully through ahimsa. We appeal all-farmers’ bodies, civil society groups, political parties, students’ and youths’ organizations to extend their support to the bandh and make it a success,” said Akshay Kumar State Convenor of NKS addressing a press conference here.
